The composer Franz Schmidt (1874-1939) is considered one of the last Austrian late Romantics: his music is characterized by a distinctive personal tonal language with subtle harmonizations. To mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, Andreas Jetter (cathedral organist at Chur Cathedral) is launching a complete recording of Franz Schmidt's organ works on original instruments from the time the compositions were written. The first volume includes the famous Chaconne in C sharp minor, the Variations and Fugue in D major on the royal fanfares from Schmidt's opera "Fredigundis" and the Four Little Chorale Preludes. Vol. 1 was recorded on the "Monumental Organ" by Josef Behmann in the parish church of St. Martin, Dornbirn / Vorarlberg, which was built in 1927 / 28 and has been carefully restored to its original state without any changes.
